What Are AI Agents? How to Use AI Agents for Your Business Operations

In order to increase the availability of AI agents, companies are developing online AI agent stores similar to popular mobile app stores such as Google Play Store and the App Store.

With the proliferation of artificial intelligence or AI offerings in cyberspace, AI agents are getting added attention from tech communities and businesses alike.

So, what are AI agents? These are automated tech assistants of their owners which are supposed to perform repetitive tasks intelligently on their own or without any human intervention.

The term AI agent is used interchangeably with chatbot or a virtual assistant. These tech helpers are deployed as frontend web interfaces on which users – like you and I – interact with them to perform various tasks, such as filling out an online form or placing your order on a grocery store or acquiring knowledge for building a website.

In the current AI market domain, ChatGPT or Generative Pre-trained Transformer – offered by OpenAI – is a popular AI agent or simply an AI-based online tool or chatbot which generates human-like text responses to prompts or user queries.

As the AI market is getting cluttered, a range of outfits are introducing their AI derivatives such as AI agents to attract consumers who are more confused than enthused with the surfeit of AI products.

A few days ago, Sam Altman – the CEO of OpenAI which developed ChatGPT – introduced a general-purpose AI agent named Operator. The OpenAI announcement, made on January 23, 2025, reveals that Operator uses its own browser to look at a webpage and interact with it by typing, clicking, and scrolling. In other words, OpenAI Operator works as a human web user.

Similarly, a new low-cost Chinese AI model DeepSeek has challenged the dominance of ChatGPT in the emerging chatbot market. The DeepSeek AI agent is getting so popular that the U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed his disquiet over its rising popularity and advised the U.S. AI companies to develop their AI agents economically like DeepSeek.

Although in its infancy, the AI agent market is developing rapidly. To further understand the utility of AI agents, you can assume that an AI agent is to the AI market what a mobile app is to the mobile market.

AI Agent Stores

In order to increase the availability of AI agents, companies are developing online AI agent stores similar to popular mobile app stores such as Google Play Store and the App Store.

The Agent.ai platform being spearheaded by HubSpot cofounder Dharmesh Shah has launched an AI agent marketplace or Agent Network similar to the mobile app stores. It is offering hundreds of AI agents to handle diverse applications.

A Company Research Agent, for example, carries out research on a company and creates a report that includes demographic information, funding data, web traffic trends, competitor analysis, and so on.

Another AI agent enhances the description of products available on e-commerce websites so that the consumers can get accurate information and thereby improving engagement and conversion rates for e-commerce stores with generative AI applications.

Similarly, different AI agents are available on Agent.ai platform associated with marketing software company HubSpot to handle diverse tasks such as image generation, customer profile building, webpage copy editing, competitor analysis, meme making, YouTube transcription generation, and so on.

While Agent.ai is supposed to be a one-stop shop for AI learners as well as aficionados, it even allows you to run the DeepSeek chatbot from its interface. You can click here to try more AI agents on the platform. Moreover, Agent.ai allows the developers’ community to build their own AI agents, as mobile developers would build mobile apps.

Thus, with the advent of AI agents, businesses of all types and sizes – small, medium, large – are undergoing a seismic shift that is poised to bring AI to the centerstage of business operations.

In the future business models, companies will have to deploy hybrid teams comprising human employees and AI agents to run different business processes.
